Fighting Child Trafficking in the United States

  • As many as 1.2 million children may be trafficked worldwide annually.2
  • 25% of all sex tourists abusing children around the world are American.1
  • 80% of US victims are female and 50% of these females are children.3
  • 45,000 to 50,000 women and children are trafficked into the US each year.1
  • Approximately 15,000 individuals trafficked into the US each year are children.1
  • Half of these children experience commercial sexual exploitation.1
  • Every year, 10,000 unaccompanied minors enter the US. One-third of them fall prey to sexual exploitation. 1

  • Trafficking is a $7 billion global industry. 1
  • A single trafficked child can earn a trafficker $30,000 or more.1
  • 55% of the children trafficked in the U.S. are black.5
  • Over 3500 women and girls are currently working as sex slaves and indentured servants in the metropolitan area.1
  • Most victims in the metropolitan area are from the former Soviet Union, Asia, Central and South America, and Africa.1
